Falcon News - Mar 10, 2023

Please see the message below from our Superintendent and don’t forget to set your clocks ahead one hour this weekend, we don’t want anyone to be late on Monday.

MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT

Dear CCSD 46 Families,

I am writing to inform you about work that has been occurring in our school district, and to in invite you to an upcoming community-wide remote meeting, which will take place at 7:00 pm on Monday, April 3, 2023.

Earlier this year, CCSD 46 determined we needed to have an in-depth review and discussion of our facilities as they relate to educational delivery and our strategic planning goals as a District. For many in our community, you may only see the outside of the buildings or select areas during performances, meetings or events. However, of course the buildings are even more complex than we see from the outside, and need to meet many needs to  provide appropriate environments for every one of our students, teachers and staff on a daily basis. In order to assist us with this process, the District has brought in Wold Architects and Engineers to facilitate this review and subsequent conversations. They are a nationally recognized firm in Educational Planning and Design and have worked with our District on projects previously so they have first-hand knowledge of our buildings.

Over the past months, Wold has been walking our schools and meeting with our District staff to gather data and information about our buildings. It is important to D46 that this process also engages our community at each phase. On April 3 we would like to ask you to participate in our first Community Meeting of the process where we will be reviewing the “Educational Adequacy” of our buildings and have the opportunity to add to the discussion. At this meeting you will hear about important aspects of the schools including:

  • Physical Conditions – what pending repairs and maintenance are needed

  • Capacity and Enrollment – the ability to accommodate the student population

  • Safety and Security – current approaches and considerations

  • Educational Alignment – how the spaces accommodate the many ways we teach

  • Activities and Community Use – how the buildings are used outside of school hours

This presentation will review both current conditions as well as areas that might be future considerations. While Wold can certainly provide perspective on current educational design and what may be important to consider, ultimately these are our schools and must reflect our own criteria and beliefs. This is the first phase of our process, and it is important that we have consensus in the community that we have gathered the appropriate information before the next phase where we will be developing Options and potential solutions for implementation, so it is critical that we hear from you.

This meeting will be an online event to allow for greater participation and the ability to record it for those who can’t attend that evening. We understand that everyone is very busy, and hopefully this format will allow you the least amount of disruption to be able to participate. We will also be using a tool called “Thought Exchange” to allow you to provide feedback and responses to ensure broad representation from the community in the process.

To attend this online meeting on Monday, April 3 at 7:00 pm, please go to this link , or join via zoom.us website and enter Meeting ID: 838 6275 1883. We hope that you will join us on Monday April 3 and help us continue this process with your voice.

Sincerely,

Dr. Lynn Glickman

Superintendent

  • Seguridad – enfoques y consideraciones actuales

Atentamente,

Dr. Lynn Glickman

Superintendente
