February 7, 2025
Dear Frederick Families,
Happy Friday! We hope that everyone has had a great week and is looking forward to the weekend!
As I mentioned in last week’s communication, we have been considering some adjustments to Frederick’s weekly newsletter since we started using Parent Square as our primary way to connect with families. One thing we have discovered is that while emails are sent along with Parent Square notices, you may not be able to access attachments without being logged in to Parent Square. With our new format we are unveiling this week, it is our hope that all information is accessible in the single email.
If you are viewing this message on a phone or mobile device and the formatting looks a little off, I have found that if you scroll to the bottom of the email message (right under the App Store / Google Play buttons) you might see a link that says “View Entire Message”. Clicking this should improve the layout of the message.
As shared last week, Parent Square is a very valuable tool that all schools in D46 will continue to use for regular communication, so please make sure to create your account and download the app if you have not done so.
Finally, next week is our Random Acts of Kindness Week and it is is one of our most special events and spirit weeks of the school year. We look forward to helping promote the power of kindness and how it can help build a positive school environment for everyone! You will find more information including a link to parent/family letter later in this newsletter.
We hope everyone enjoys the new newsletter format which mixes a little bit of our old template with Parent Square, and hopefully you find that the information is even more accessible.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Tips for Cleaning & Caring For Your Chromebook
As Chromebooks are an essential part of our students’ learning experience, it’s important to charge them every night and keep them in good condition. Proper care and regular cleaning help ensure these devices remain functional and last throughout the school year. Below are some helpful tips for maintaining your student’s Chromebook.
Cleaning Your Chromebook
Turn It Off First
Before cleaning, ensure the Chromebook is powered off and unplugged from any charger.
Use a Microfiber Cloth
To clean the screen and exterior, use a soft, lint free microfiber cloth. This prevents scratches and removes dust or smudges effectively.
Avoid Harsh Cleaners
Do not use bleach, ammonia-based cleaners, or abrasive materials. For tougher spots, lightly dampen the cloth with water or a solution of 70% isopropyl alcohol and gently wipe the surface.
Caring for Your Chromebook
Keep It in Its Case
Always store the Chromebook in its provided protective case when not in use. This helps prevent accidental drops, scratches, and other damage.
Avoid Overloading the Screen
Do not place items like pens, papers, or chargers on the keyboard before closing the Chromebook. This is a common cause of screen damage.
Charge It Regularly and Safely
Chromebooks should be charged every night to ensure they are ready for learning. Plug and unplug the charger carefully, and avoid bending or twisting the charging cable. Always charge the Chromebook on a flat, stable surface.
Store It Properly
When not in use, store the Chromebook in a secure, dry location away from food, drinks, and extreme temperatures.
Report Issues Promptly
If your student notices a problem with their Chromebook, encourage them to report it to their teacher immediately to prevent further damage.
Keeping Our School Community Healthy: A Note from Our Health Office
As we move through the winter months, we wanted to all families to be aware that we have noticed an increase in seasonal illnesses.
Please be vigilant for any signs or symptoms of illness in your child. If your child is showing symptoms that could be contagious, we kindly ask that you keep them at home to rest and recover. If your child receives a diagnosis from a healthcare provider, please inform us as soon as possible.
Additionally, parents and guardians are asked to notify the attendance line at (847) 223-3540, option 4, option 6, by 8:00 AM. This is a 24-hour line, so you can call at any time.
As a reminder, your child may not attend school or any school based activities if your child has a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, unexplained rash or red eyes the night before or the morning of school.
Diarrhea is defined as 3 loose stools in 24 hours or a change in bowel habit. A fever is defined as a temperature of 100.4°F. Most fevers subside in the morning, but go up again during the day. Your child can return to school when your child has been symptom free for 24 hours without the aid of a fever reducing medication.
Thank you for your attention and support as together we can work together to keep our school community healthy! For more information regarding other health related topics, please see the
24-25 Student Handbook.
